Let’s cat to it, in no pawticular order…

1. A Street Cat Named Bob: And How He Saved My Life By James Bowen

This one probably needs no introduction. It’s the heartwarming international bestseller about the author James, a broke musician and an injured stray cat he named Bob that needed a home. How their lives changed together after an unlikely meeting will live on in history. It even spawned two popular sequels which are linked below as well. If you enjoyed the first, be sure to pick up the rest.

2. Dewey the Library Cat By Vicki Myron & Bret Witter

The greatest tales of love and redemption are often born from great cruelty and misfortune. In Dewey’s case, this is certainly true. Abandoned in the Spencer City Library book drop slot in the dead of an Iowa winter, he managed to survive the coldest night and was then rescued by Vicki Myron in the morning. There he lived and over time became a celebrity, entertaining and uplifting the townspeople with his huge personality and making hundreds and thousands of deep friendships. He may have passed on more than a decade ago, but his legacy lives on. Check out Dewey’s own website here.

3. Chicken Soup for the Soul: Life Lessons from the Cat

Eckhart Tolle once said that he lived with several Zen masters in his life – all of them were cats. Life lessons from our cats come in many forms, from the hilarious to the heroic. You’ll enjoy a wide variety in these 101 entertaining stories. A great book for the whole family.

4. Think Like A Cat By Pam Johnson-Bennett

This book is still a fun read even if, like me, you’ve lived with cats for some time and are able to understand their body language. There will defnitely be some new and useful information to help deepen your bond and make your cat’s life happier and more meaningful.

5. Total Cat Mojo & Cat Daddy By Jackson Galaxy

Jackson Galaxy is the celebrity cat whisperer and no doubt you know him as the host of Animal Planet’s My Cat From Hell. These are his two most popular books.

Cat Daddy
Galaxy recounts his 13 year relationship with his cat Benny, who was once considered ‘unbondable with any human’. At the time they met, he was a failed rock musician with a part time job at an animal shelter and he had a major drug problem. What ensues is a poignant story of them healing each other, and setting up Galaxy on his path to become a cat behaviorist.

Total Cat Mojo
This is his most comprehensive book on cat behavior and basic cat care. From getting kittens off to the right start socially to taking care of cats in their senior years, and everything in between, this book addresses the head-to-toe physical and emotional needs of cats—whether related to grooming, nutrition, play, or stress-free trips to the vet. There are some criticisms about the layout and small fonts used in this publication, so check out a preview of it first if you’re particular.

6. Why Cats Paint: A Theory of Feline Aesthetics By Heather Busch & Burton Silver

Is it possible that like humans, cats have an innate desire to express their creativity through art? This book explores the possibility and provides photographic documentation that will intrigue and delight all cat lovers. Whether you believe it or not, this is a fun, unique and seldom explored feline subject matter. Just be sure you’re okay with the size measurements before purchasing because this is a miniature book.

7. Really Important Stuff My Cat Has Taught Me By Cynthia Copeland

These are short bits of wisdom with accompanying cute cat photos that are touching and hilarious. Very light yet memorable, this makes a great gift or just a fun teatime read while lounging on the couch. Either way, this is a book sure to delight all cat lovers.

8. Sorry I Barfed on Your Bed By Jeremy Greenberg

This touches on all the funny and frustrating aspects of cohabitation between cats and humans, but from the cat’s perspective! Greenberg presents a collection of hilarious photographs and letters from cat the explores the human (and cat) condition. Guaranteed to put a grin on your face.

9. I Am Maru By Mugumogu

This is a must have for all fans of the Japanese, Scottish Fold box-loving internet sensation Maru! Get to know him, his owner and his home a little better and watch his mischevious and adorable antics up close on print. This book was published in 2011 so it’s a little old. Maru has since moved to a new apartment and also acquired a new housemate, Hana. Hopefully that will be covered in a future sequel. Check out their Youtube channel here.

10. The Adventures Of A Curious Cat By Curious Zelda

Like Maru, Curious Zelda is an internet celebrity on social media. If you’ve never heard of her, prepare to fall in love when you check out her Twitter and Facebook. This book is a must have for all fans and cat lovers. Very well written, it contains Zelda’s witty antics, musings, stories and poems to keep you and your cats up all night!

11. Second-Chance Cats By Callie Smith Grant

Two of my cats were adopted from an animal shelter and the third my wife Lea rescued from the street. So this book is quite meaningful to me. Callie Smith Grant has selected stories of people taking in homeless cats and how their lives were impacted by that. Of course, the old adage that ‘our cats adopt us’ has a lot of truth to it. This is definitely a sleeper gem.

12. Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats By T. S. Eliot

No list of best books for cat lovers would be complete without this beloved classic. These poems were composed throughout the 1930s by T. S. Eliot, which in 1981 were set to music by Andrew Lloyd Webber as Cats which went on to become the longest-running Broadway musical in history. This charming new edition contains original color illustrations by the award-winning illustrator Axel Scheffler. The fonts are a little lighter and smaller than usual so take a preview before buying if it concerns you.

13. You Need More Sleep By Francesco Marciuliano

Okay okay, this is actually considered a hardcover book but we’ve included it because it’s actually a miniature book. Plus it totally deserves it’s spot on this list. Very well written by a fan favorite author, cats dispensing valuable advice never gets old.
